Things to Do in Cardiff

One of the reasons Cardiff is such a fantastic place to go on holiday time is that you can arrive at your own ideal combination of pursuits, including energetic and relaxed, historic and contemporary. Cardiff has loads of museums and places to enjoy activities suited to every member of the family. Here are a small portion of things you can consider doing when you're in Cardiff.

Welsh National Museum

The Welsh National Museum lies within the Civic Centre in Gorsedd Gardens. This is a fantastic museum venue, one of the best you're likely to come across anywhere. You could quite easily lose several hours in this place, with exhibits and collections designed to let you explore the geological and social history of Wales in interactive ways. The natural history elements are particularly impressive, but the art gallery is also a real treat, with a fantastic impressionist component.

Millennium Centre

The Millennium Centre is one of Wales' most famous images. An arts venue and centre, the setting is the wonderful Cardiff Bay area. Known as the Armadillo, the centre hosts performances in a wide range of art forms and genres, including dance, music and comedy among others. Many of the national arts companies and organisations are based here, including those for opera, orchestra, theatre, literature and dance.

St Fagans National History Museum

St Fagans National History Museum offers a unique insight into the history of Welsh life. This incredible open air development lies within St Fagans Castle grounds, and is one of the most popular visitor attractions anywhere in the UK. The exhibits include a variety of buildings, whose architectural and interior features are used as a way to explore the lifestyles of the Welsh people throughout the ages.

Civic Centre

The Civic Centre is actually a development of several notable buildings, set in the Cathays Park area of the city. Buildings within it include the City Hall, the Temple of Peace, the National Museum and Gallery. Some of the university's buildings are also located here. As well as these impressive structures, the Cathay Park area is also home to some lovely landscaped garden areas.

Techniquest

Techniquest on Stuart Street is a fantastic activity centre designed to get kids (and adults) excited about science and technology. The interactive exhibits immerse you in the concepts being explored, and the planetarium is a real thrill for the whole family.

Goleulong 2000 Lightship

The Goleulong 2000 Lightship at Cardiff Bay is a unique experience. Climbing to the tower's top is a great way to afford yourself fantastic views of this charming area of the city.

Cardiff Road Train

Cardiff Road Train is a fun way to travel between Cardiff Barrage and Stuart Street, with an entertaining commentary throughout.

Bay Island Voyages

Bay Island Voyages offer a number of boating and cruising experiences around the bay area. You can stay near the city or go a little further into the Severn Estuary, a lovely way to experience this part of the world.
